Femitha holds a triple-honors degree in English, Journalism, and Psychology from St.Joseph’s University, Bangalore. Following this, she embarked on a Master’s programme in Counselling Psychology from Sampurna Montfort College. She is currently undergoing training in Play therapy from National association for Play therapy India. Having completed 2000+ therapy hours, she has more than 3 years of experience in the field.
Shortly after the completion of her Masters, Femitha continued with her private practice until joining The Alternative story, a Bangalore-based mental health organization. During her tenure at thealtstory, she has worked with clients from various age groups, ranging from 8- 45 year olds. Her work here has given her a broad exposure to a varied clientele and helped sharpen and skill set as a therapist. Along with taking therapy sessions, Femitha has also supervised other therapist’s cases and guided trainee counsellor’s work. She has also worked as visiting faculty at St.Joseph’s University, Bangalore, where she taught Psychology to undergraduate students over the course of her journey as a lecturer.
She is well versed in providing therapy for trauma, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, inter-personal difficulties, marital and family related concerns, and work-place issues. Femitha pre-dominantly works from a person-centered framework, and believes in personalizing therapy for each client. She makes use of Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Rational Emotive Behavioral therapy (REBT), Somatic experiencing, and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), and tends to come up with action plans that fit the clients’ needs.
Femitha strongly believes that therapy works best when it moves according to the client’s needs. and pace at a given point of time. During her interactions with clients, she supports them to navigate through their emotions in a safe space.
